VISA Procedure

Visitors to Vietnam must obtain a Vietnam visa from either one of Vietnam Embassies or a Consulate office worldwide or on arrival, unless they come from one of the visa-exempt countries. All visitors must hold a passport valid at least for 6 months.

Visa exempt countries
Most nationalities require a visa to enter Vietnam. Exceptions are:

  • Citizens of the following countries may enter Vietnam for 30 days without a visa: Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, Cambodia.
  • Citizens of the Philippines may enter Vietnam for 21 days without a visa.
  • Citizens of the following countries may enter Vietnam for 15 days without a visa: Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Korea (republic), Belarus, and Russia. 

Apart from these above exemptions, visitors must have Vietnam visa before entering Vietnam.

Visa procedure for some exceptional nationalities

According to regulation of Vietnam Immigration Office, for the passport holders of some exceptional nationalities, the paperwork required for Vietnam visa application will be different and more complicated than the ordinary nationalities. A process of some recommendation letters from the Government Bodies (that grant auspices for the VSCT2024's organiser) will be required by Vietnam Immigration Office for the visa application. After that, an approval letter from Vietnam Immigration Office will be issued so that visitor can use it to obtain visa on arrival. Visitor will be sent a copy of that approval letter to get on the flight to Vietnam and will obtain Vietnam visa at the Immigration counter at the airport. The procedure to obtain Vietnam visa at the airport is the same to the ordinary passport holders, as indicated above.

List of some exceptional nationalities are as follows:
- Afghanistan
- Bangladesh
- Cameroon
- Congo
- Ghana
- Iran
- Iraq
- Kenya
- Mozambique
- Nigeria
- Pakistan
- Sri Lanka
- Syria
- Tunisia
- Turkey

Passport holders of these exceptional nationalities are advised to contact the VSCT2024's secretary as soon as possible and no later than 30 days prior to the event for visa procedure for more details. The processing fee might be higher than that applied for ordinary passport holders, depending on nationalities, time of receiving visa support request.

Vietnam visa via Embassy or Consulate
An invitation letter will be sent to you so that you use to apply for visa in person or by post with the Vietnam Embassy or Consulate in your country. Visa stamp fees are paid by applicants directly to Vietnam Embassy or Consulate as per their cost regulation.

Visa on arrival
A pre-approval letter issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department will be arranged and sent to you before your travelling. You will take a copy of the letter + your original passport + 2 photos plus visa stamp fee (paid by applicants directly to the arrival airport’s Immigration desk) to get visa stamped on your passport on arrival.
